UCF SURF TEAM TRYOUTS!!!

UCF SURF TEAM will be holding their 2nd tryouts for the upcoming 2010-2011 NSSA COLLEGIATE season. This is a great opportunity to be apart of a nation wide competitive team. Competitions occur regularly once a month against other college teams throughout the EAST coast region, and then followed up with NATIONAL’S in CALIFORNIA. We are looking for any age, male/female ucf students that are fully enrolled in the upcoming school year. We need LONGBOARDERS as well as SHORT-BOARDERS, and especially LADIES.

BEACH SIGN UP ONLY AND NO KNOCK OUT HEATS!

You will be judged on your individual performance.

You must also join the surfUCF club to tryout.

2nd Tryout
When: SEPTEMBER 12th
Time: 8:30 am
Location: Bethune park, New Smyrna Beach FL

This will be ran just like the 1st tryouts. Plan on coming out for the full day as there well be two rounds of heats where everyone will be surfing twice. We will also have MONSTER ENERGY drinks for you.

If you didn’t bring your $50 club dues to the first tryout they need to be brought to this one, if not paid at the club meeting before coming to tryout.

***Remember competition surfing is different than free surfing. You usually have 15 min to show what you’ve got. You will be judged on your most critical maneuvers, in the most critical part of the waves, with the best flow and power. ***

Firewire Demo

Ever wanted to try out a Firewire? Right now in the shop we have a 5’10″ Firewire Spitfire with the Rapidfire technology that you can demo out for just $30 per day *.

This board is super fun to ride. Adam, our resident ding guy and owner of Surfboard Medic, took advantage of the demo and took the board out for the Hurricane Colin swell and raved about it so much, he ended up taking one home a few days later. “Super easy to paddle, the board just felt really lively with a lot of spring. Fast with tons of drive, it was easy to boost over sections or slide the tail around.”

The Spitfire combines a diamond tail and step-down tail rail, giving the Spitfire the tail bite of a much thinner board, without losing the Dominator’s speed and flotation. The Spitfire offers the same 5/4/3 fin options and a low entry rocker for easy paddling.

With plenty of waves inbound, come in the shop and grab it before someone else does!

With the flat spell we are under and looking like it’s going to stay that way into next week, this is the perfect time to drop off your board for those neglected repairs. We work with Surfboard Medic, so USS Catalyst offers one of the quickest turnarounds in board repair with standard repairs taking 5-6 days upon pickup. They also offer rush services as well.

SEXPO OHTEN

DW    Skate, Surf     Surf Expo

This past January the Surf Expo rolled into town once again. This year was a bit different. I had a chance to design the course with Ryan O’Connor and Jack Moran. Our ideas didn’t come out exactly as planned, but the consensus was that it was the best Expo setup so far. Unfortunately, the dude from Kona set up the contest bogus, and Orlando didn’t even have a single shop competing in the contest HELD IN OUR OWN TOWN. Yeah, real wack. Also seeing as there was a huge contest going on, with hundreds of skateboarders flying over the course at all hours of the day, filming was at a minimum (unless I had opted to film dad cam from hella far away). Still left the expo with a solid quick clip for your viewing pleasure. Check Chris Blake, Jonny Scianneaux, Johan Stuckey, Ryan O’Connor, and Ian Rosenberg shred the course I spent hours of my life(that I will never get back) painting the beautiful color red. Big thanks to Team Pain!
