Jacksonville Thumbs Up
This past weekend, shop riders Jonny,Kenan, and I braved the 100 degree weather and drove out to Jacksonville to try and get some content for the team page we’re in the process of building. We left in the morning to try and beat the rain, and made it there with plenty of time to skate.
As all Floridians know, you have to drive North to get to the South making Jacksonville a pretty Southern city compared to Orlando. Seeing that it was a Sunday that we visited Jax, everything in the city closes around 3 or 4 in the afternoon. If you ever are looking for a time to skate Jacksonville, try Sunday evening. The whole city is pretty much free game.

With some last minute directions we stopped at a secret Jacksonville spot that not too many out-of-towners know about. It was a long car ride with two teenagers.

This spot has almost no coverage probably because of how gnarly it is. The bank is so steep that the nose of your board will just run into it like a vertical wall and send you flying forward. Kenan made the mistake of not lifting up his nose and the spot smashed his board. Not too often you get to skate a perfect natural bank though. The spot was definitely pretty fruitful.

Jax has a really sick city. All the buildings are very aesthetically pleasing. ..Until you get to the outskirts of downtown at least.

Insert typical Main Street Bridge photo above.

Another Jacksonville gem is the War Memorial ledges. It’s like a skateboarder’s paradise complete with 6 perfect granite ledges, a wallie to manual, and a huge marble wall with a bank up to it perfect for wallriding. Of course it has people’s names who’ve given their lives in the wars over the past 100 years, but the ledges don’t have anyone dead on them! That’s free game right? After years of skateboarding going on here without causing as much as a scratch to the ledges (the stone is so hard it honestly doesn’t scratch), they finally got knobbed. Weak.

It was raining anyways, cute umbrella DW

We managed to get a bit more skating done after the rain. I’ve been going to Jacksonville to skate for the past 5 years, and I still find new stuff to skate there. It’s no wonder, Jacksonville is the largest city in the United States, no lie, look it up. We found this thing right under our noses. Jonny gap to 5-0.

We got there so early the troops were tired before we could even night skate. We decided to get out of Jax when characters like this started roaming the streets. Till next time Jacksonville. Check out some footage from the trip rycheaaaa.
