NYC/Philly Street Skating

Just got back from a quick excursion to Killadelphia and NYC. To see a blog of the trip go here. Later!

David Kahn

david has been around oviedo quite a while now. after years of lurking around our shop, his loyalty has paid off. here’s some recent footy of david ripping some local orlando spots. there is no doubt he has matured from the “river-rat” he once was, to the skater you see before you. welcome on board, dave.

Mega Ramp Training

Photobucket

New rider Jake Welch is up at Woodward shredding. He sent me this email of the craziest thing i have ever seen. The drop in is 50 FEET high and the radar clocked him in at 40mph, NO JOKE. Bottom line, this little jitterbug rips. That has got to be seriously scary.

GO SKATEBOARDING DAY

This Saturday June 21st is ”go skate day” , and USS will be hosting a “get-together” at Oviedo Skatepark from 11-4.  We’ll be giving back to the kids that support us, by handing out hot dogs, drinks, and a bunch of swag (tees, hats, stickers…)  We’ll be throwing down a few bigger prizes for “best-trick” on a few of the obstacles as well.  From my understanding the park is reducing it’s rates for the day and bringing out a large PA for music (don’t worry we’ll take care of that).  This is the first year the parks recognized the national holiday, so make sure to come out and show support, so it will go off even bigger next year!  let’s ride…

D-Kahn USS “new” rider

Dave Kahn has been coming in the shop for years.  He’s one of the more humble-quiet kids who just wants to be a good street skater.  Whether it’s a new trick or video related, he’s down to make it happen.  Give this kid props for throwing down some big tricks!  He sent me a lot of good photos, but these were just a few of my favs.

“The Park”

Last Sunday my buddy Rodney called and said “Let’s head to that Melbourne park”. We picked up Andrew on the way, and headed out toward the beach. Coincidentally, USS employees Pearson and Sean headed there the same day. Lucky for you all I brought the camera and came up on a couple clips at the park. Melbourne Park Montage starring: Andrew Nedimyer, Rodney MacInnes, and Sean Boyle.

USS ditch-ramp contest/ Postponed

Unfortunately we’ve had to postpone the contest till further notice due to me breaking my foot, as well as some other complications in contracting the event.   sure a lot of you are saying, what’s a ditch-ramp? Well, “back in the day” 1980’s, when there were no skate-parks (thanks to corpo-man), we had to skate drainage ditches that were usually around highways. They were usually pretty small in height, and sometimes had been manipulated with various wood structures or concrete parking stoppers at the top for added fun. Yeah, it was primitive and compared to today’s skateparks almost pathetic; but it was all we had. In USS style, we wanted to do something unique and bring back a better version of that to today’s skaters. The whole idea is to be creative, and attack stuff that looks like it wasn’t meant to be there. I have a feeling it will be more of a mini-half frankenstein event, but we will do our best to make it interesting…. o’yeah if you want bonus points for style, come dressed with some outrageous 80’s flavor (shorts, sunglasses, cut-off tee…). Remember, it’s supposed to be fun!

note: the attempt for a double grab, as if one’s not enough!

I met Isaac Crawford about 6 months ago, as he and his dad would come through the shop regularly. The difference between Isaac and most other young kids, was that he was more polite and would ask for 60mm wheels! I had no idea of well he could skate at the time, but I liked his reserved demeanor and personality for being so young. When I ask him if he’d like to donate his old stuff to less fortunate kids, he always seems eager to do so. It’s great to see such a young skater who hasn’t been totally spoiled but has the support of his parents. You can tell he’s an independent thinker for being such a young age. We look forward to seeing Isaac progress and raise the bar for other young kids to follow.
